Getting started with Laela

Everything you need to create a lasting digital memorial — from the first form to a beautifully published tribute.

Create your memorial

Sign in and tap + New Memorial. Enter the full name, dates of birth and death, a biography, and optionally a cover photo. A draft is saved automatically as you type — nothing is published until you're ready.

Tip

You can start with just a name and come back later to add more details. Laela saves drafts automatically.

Add family & connections

Use the Family tab to add the people who shaped this life — parents, spouse, children, siblings. Each person gets their own card with their relationship to the deceased shown visually in a family tree.

Invite others

Share the memorial with family members so they can contribute from wherever they are. Everyone sees the same story.

Add services, tasks & timeline

Plan the funeral programme, assign tasks to family members or staff, and track what needs to happen before the day. The life timeline lets you document milestones — school, marriage, career, awards — as a chronological story.

Review & publish

When the memorial is ready, submit it for review. Once approved, it goes live at a permanent link — laela.co.bw/o/your-id — that you can share with anyone. Published memorials are searchable from the Laela homepage.

Permanent & shareable

The memorial lives online for as long as you need it. Share the link on WhatsApp, print it on programmes, or include it in announcements.

Frequently asked questions

Is Laela free to use?
Yes — the Freemium tier is available at no cost and includes the core memorial features. Additional tiers (Basic, Advanced, Custom) unlock premium templates and extended features.
Who can see the memorial once published?
Published memorials are publicly visible — anyone with the link can view them without signing in. Drafts and in-review memorials are only visible to the owner and admin.
Can I update the memorial after publishing?
Yes. You can continue adding to the biography, gallery, and announcements after publishing. Changes go live immediately.
Does it work on mobile?
Laela is fully responsive and works on any device — phone, tablet, or desktop. The same account and memorial are accessible from anywhere.
